JUNE – HAM & EGG ENSAYMADA

Ham & Egg Ensaymada Sandwich: Breakfast Inside-mada

School is back! It’s time to come up with more interesting “baon” ideas for your hardworking student! Here’s one they’ll surely love!

Sandwiches are school recess staples because of their compact and handy size, but great sustenance. One of its most popular “palaman”, especially during breakfast time, is the harmonious pairing of cooked ham and fried eggs!

But what if you could take that classic breakfast sandwich and give it some sweetness! All it really needs is one of Julie’s Bakeshop’s classic sweet breads for that!

AN ENSAYMADA BURGER?

What if you turn an Ensaymada into a burger bun? It sounds random, but with a few ingredients in the middle, it’s a pretty unique sandwich. And that is exactly what this recipe aims to create.

The lightly toasted powdered sugar on top creates a caramelized crust, complementing the savory tang the ham and eggs produce.

It’s an eye-opening snack your child’s classmates will surely ask for. Here’s how to make your students’ next baon favorite!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 piece Ensaymada
  • 1 Sliced Cooked Ham
  • 1 Fried Egg
  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Create the ensaymada burger bun by slicing it from the side, creating a top and bottom half.

2. Toast both sides of each half in a dry pan for around one to two minutes.

3. In a separate pan, fry some sunny side up eggs. For a runny yolk, cook it for three to four minutes, or five to seven to cook it well done.

4. Then fry some fresh ham slices at medium heat for about two to four minutes.

5. For assembly, place a slice of cooked ham on the bottom half, then top that off with an egg. Add a drizzle of ketchup and mayonnaise on top for some extra flavor.

 6. Place the top half over the bottom half to complete the ensaymada brunch burger. Repeat the same process for the rest of the ensaymada.

Get ready: your child’s classmates will be asking for a bite out of this one! Take it from us: they’re going to need more than one with how good this is!

This Ensaymada sandwich is easy to make, fun to eat, and most importantly, oh-so-delicious. Enjoy its genius combination of savory and sweet flavors!
